Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official said the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
